Top Questions New Supporting Artists Ask… Answered!

Are you thinking about becoming a Supporting Artist?

Whether you’ve worked on set before or you’re completely new to the world of film and TV, we know it can feel a bit overwhelming at first.

At Somebody, we want to make the process simple, transparent, and exciting. So, we’ve pulled together some of the most common questions new Supporting Artists ask us. all in one place.

DO I NEED ANY ACTING EXPERIENCE?

Not at all!
Being a Supporting Artist isn’t about performing lines or having training - you just need to be reliable, professional, and unafraid of early mornings and long work days! Anyone can do it, and we welcome people from all walks of life.

*You will need to have the right to work in the UK and be over the age of 16. Some productions may also require you to have a DBS certificate.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Just head to withsomebody.co.uk, click “Sign Up,” in the menu bar at the top, and fill in your details. You’ll be asked to upload a few clear, recent photos and provide some basic information about your appearance and availability, as well as proof of your right to work in the UK (for example, a passport, birth certificate, visa etc…)

Once you’ve built your profile, we’ll be able to consider you for work that fits your look and location.

WHAT KIND OF JOBS DO YOU OFFER?

It can be anything from TV dramas and feature films to commercials and music videos. Depending on the project, we might be looking for very specific types of people, or a wide variety of looks.

When we get a casting brief in, we search our books and reach out to the people who match.

WILL I GET WORK STRAIGHT AWAY?

Not always, but that’s completely normal.
At the moment, we are in our recruitment stages and are building our books, ready for work in the coming months.

Work opportunities will depend on what productions are filming, what roles they’re casting, and how well you match the brief.

That’s why it’s important to keep your profile up to date and respond quickly if we get in touch.

We can’t guarantee work, but we’ll always put you forward when you’re right for the job.

HOW MUCH DOES IT PAY

Rates vary depending on the type of production, the number of hours you work, and what is required of you on the shoot.  As a general guide:

  • TV & Film: Rates are usually based on union agreements and range from around £115–£200+ per day.

  • Commercials: These can sometimes pay more, especially if the ad airs widely or includes buyouts.

We’ll always confirm the rate before you put yourself forward for a job.

You can find out more about rates here: https://www.withsomebody.co.uk/pay-rates

WHEN WILL I GET PAID

We process payments within 10 working days of receiving funds from production. In most cases, that means you’ll likely receive your payment within around 4-6 weeks after your filming day.

You’ll receive payment directly via bank transfer, and upload a remittance (break down of your pay) to your profile.

WHAT HAPPENS ON A TYPICAL FILMING DAY?

You’ll usually be given a call time and location the night before your shoot. Once on set, you’ll check in, get into costume, hair & makeup if needed, and wait to be called to set.

You might be on camera for just a few moments, or for several scenes. There’s often a lot of waiting around, so bring something to read or to keep yourself busy, and bring weather-appropriate clothing/accessories to keep yourself warm - or cool - between takes.

Meals are usually provided if you're on set for a full day.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR

It depends on the role.
Some productions will provide wardrobe, others will ask you to bring your own clothes based on a brief (e.g. smart casual or gym-wear or black tie). We’ll always give you clear info ahead of time so you can arrive fully prepared.

CAN I DO THIS AROUND A FULL-TIME JOB?

Absolutely. Many of our Supporting Artists are students, freelancers, parents, retirees, or full-time workers who pick up jobs when they’re free, or are able to book in annual leave. You’re never required to put yourself forward for a job - we only ask that if you do, you are then fully prepared to commit if you get booked.

WHY CHOOSE SOMEBODY?

Because we see our Supporting Artists as people, not numbers.

We’re building a book that’s diverse, professional, and reflective of the UK’s rich community. Our team is kind, dedicated, and experienced, and we’re here to make sure you feel respected and valued every step of the way.
